Sami Viljanto is from Helsinki, Finland. He graduated from Helsinki Polytechnic with a BA in New Media Design in 2008 and rather than following his course alumni into careers in web development decided to listen to his heart and pursue a career in Illustration, and judging by his output since, we think it fair to say he made the right decision.
Illustration offered Sami the chance to allow his creative tendencies to run riot, in 2010 he formed his own illustration company called Grande Deluxe which has worked on a variety of commercial projects for a variety of clients, among them; Uplause, Plan Finland, Päivi Raivio and Göoo Magazine.
Armed with pen and paper, Sami will very simply sketch his ideas to begin with and once he is happy with the loose composition will upload the image onto his computer for further editing using InDesign. He may revert to his sketchbook midway through a piece in order to define more complicated details.
His work is always full of fun and his excellent sense of humour comes to the fore in many of his colourful illustrations. Sami loves to be challenged and is always pushing his creative talents to the limit. He says one of his skills is his ability to turn any conversation into an awkward silence in 20 seconds, well no matter Sami we think your work speaks for itself!
